OUR FORMULA
Harvested, developed, and produced in Denmark, our energy sport gel is based on a science-backed blend of three types of carbohydrates, carefully designed to make you perform at your best and feel your best.
Maltodextrin
A complex carbohydrate that breaks down into glucose, providing a steady and easily digestible energy source without upsetting the stomach.
Dextrose
A simple sugar form of glucose that is absorbed rapidly, giving an immediate energy boost when the body needs it most.
Fructose
Fructose is absorbed through a different pathway than glucose, allowing the body to take in more total carbohydrates and sustain energy over longer periods.
The mix matters because your body can only absorb a limited amount of glucose-based carbs per hour.
By adding several carbohydrates that are absorbed differently, you can take in more total energy without overloading your stomach. This means higher fuel availability, less gut discomfort, and longer-lasting performance.

Confused on what, when, and how to fuel?
We've got the answers.
When do I need gels for training?
You don’t necessarily need energy gels for workouts under 60 minutes if you’ve eaten recently, but they’re helpful when you haven’t eaten for hours and need some energy before a run and especially for sessions over 60–75 minutes and high-intensity training.
Gels become essential when:
- You’re training for more than 60–75 minutes.
- Your session includes long intervals, tempo runs, competitions, or high intensity.
- You need energy but haven't eaten in more than three hours
Using gels during these longer or intense sessions helps maintain blood sugar, delay fatigue, prevent dizziness or “hitting the wall,” and ultimately improves performance and mood during training.
Why do some people get stomach problems from gels?
Most stomach issues come from single-type sugars, dehydration or artificial additives; Puronia avoids this by using three easy-to-absorb carbohydrates (dextrose, fructose, maltodextrin), clean ingredients and no artificial colours or flavours. Because sports should feel fun, not a punishment.
Digestive issues are common, but avoidable. They usually occur because of:
- Too much sugar (a single type of carbohydrate) at once - A high carbohydrate concentration without enough water can slow stomach emptying.
- Untrained gut - just like muscles, your stomach needs to be trained to handle fuel during exercise.
- Poor timing or dehydration - Taking a gel without drinking water makes it harder to absorb.
- Artificial additives and sweeteners - Certain low quality sugar, artificial flavors and additives can irritate the gut.
Why do you use three types of carbohydrates?
Puronia combines dextrose, fructose and maltodextrin so your body can absorb more carbs per hour, maintain steady energy and reduce the risk of stomach discomfort. Your body can only absorb a certain amount of one type of carbohydrate per hour. By combining multiple types (like glucose and fructose), you can increase the total amount of energy your body can take in - without overloading the stomach.
- Glucose and maltodextrin use one transport system in the gut.
- Fructose uses another.
Together, they allow your body to absorb up to 60–90 g of carbs per hour, instead of just 30–60 g with glucose alone. - This means more energy, better endurance, and less risk of stomach cramps.
When and how should I take gels?
Whenever you feel like you need one! But take one gel every 30-45 minutes during training longer than 60 minutes, always with water, and test in training to find what feels best for your body.
What are Aronia berries?
Aronia berries are naturally antioxidant-rich berries that add natural flavour and colour to our gels - so there is no need for artificial additives.
What about allergies and dietary needs?
Puronia gels are vegan, gluten-free and free from dairy, lactose, artificial colours and flavours.
Why can’t I just eat a banana instead of a gel?
You can - but during training or racing, a gel works faster, is easier to digest, and won’t sit heavy in your stomach. A banana contains fiber that slows digestion, while Puronia gels deliver precise, quick energy from three complementary carbohydrates — dextrose, fructose, and maltodextrin — designed for performance. They’re lighter to carry, easier to take on the move, and help you reach the recommended 30–90 g of carbs per hour without stomach stress.
Do I need to train my stomach?
Yes - just like your muscles and cardiovascular system, your digestive system can adapt to handling fuel while you exercise. Introducing energy gels in shorter training sessions helps your body learn to absorb them without discomfort when you step up to longer events. Testing the gel in training rather than race day is key.
How should I store the gels?
Store in a cool, dry place out of sunlight; no need to refrigerate unless opened. BUT a great hack for cyclists is to put it in the freezer on hot days, so the gel is nice and cool later on the bike.
