I’m not really a spreadsheet-style runner. For me, the best fueling plan is the one you can still execute deep into a race. In ultras, everything changes constantly. Appetite, pace, terrain, emotions — so flexibility matters more than perfection. My plan is to rely mostly on gels during the race, supplemented with some solid food from aid stations as the hours add up. In long ultras, the “perfect” gel is honestly just the one you’re still able to take when your stomach and mind start pushing back, and that’s something I’ve been thinking a lot about going into this race.
